Do you feel like you need to detox your body and mind?
Or do you just need to get moving to shake off that post Christmas funk?
Explore the roles of Tapasya, imbibition and attuning to the inner felt sense in helping us to make sensible and effective detox choices; as we sift through the detox myths to find out what our bodies really need.
Detox has recently become a contentious issue. Increased knowledge of the dangers of orthorexia has highlighted the fact that there are some unhealthy practices that are being done in the name of detox. However, many people still find the term helpful as it accurately describes the recognition that we need to extricate ourselves from unhealthy mental and physical habits.
Anything taken to extremes is extreme. However, detoxing does not need to be extreme. It does not even need to involve dieting at all. A detox can just be about releasing unhelpful mental or movement habits.
You might not even know what habits need to be released. This is common, as overwhelm is often experieinced in the midst of a busy lifestyle. Do we need to definitively know what habits need releasing and what habits are helpful? Experience tells me no.
Often it’s just a case of setting the intention to adopt some healthy habits, and making a start.
I find the best place to make a start is by moving, and paying close attention to one’s inner felt sense as we move. The body contains billions of years of evolutionary wisdom, entwined within its DNA. The mind is playing catch up trying to map all of this out. But allowing the mind to relax into its ability to trust the body helps reveal the difference between good habits that are healthy and soothing, and those habits that are unhelpful and inflammatory for body and mind.
In this workshops we will explore some detoxing principles and myths whilst moving the body:
Are twists really detoxing?
Can asana massage your liver?
The role of diet, tapasya & imbibition in detox
